Archives as a bridge of friendship between SCO countries

The round table organized by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Uzarkhiv Agency for representatives of archival institutions of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states was held today in the format of videoconference. The event was timed to coincide with the International Archives Day, which is annually celebrated on June 9.
The roundtable was attended by the Ministers of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Uzbekistan, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, heads of archives of India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
In his welcoming speech Sergey Khomenko thanked the organizers for the opportunity to take part in the round table. He noted that today there is an active cooperation with the CIS countries to create joint projects in the field of exhibition and publishing activities in the context of the common history of our countries. The Minister of Justice outlined the vectors of cooperation of archival institutions within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
"The Republic of Belarus fulfills all the stipulated procedures for joining the SCO. Participation in today's event confirms our readiness to work actively on the platforms of the Organization," stressed Sergei Khomenko.
The round table also included speeches by the heads of the archival services of the countries represented.
In his report, Director of the Archives and Records Management Department Oleg Voinov highlighted the key areas of the Belarusian archivists' activities. He introduced new pilot projects in the field of outreach activities:«Открытый киноархив», «Города Беларуси», акцией «Архивы – Школе», «Юный архивист».
The head of the archival industry expressed his readiness to acquaint everyone with the experience of the Belarusian archives in organizing the above projects and suggested that these projects should be developed first as part of bilateral cooperation and later should reach the multilateral international level involving the potential of the participating countries, thereby spiritually enriching and uniting the nations.

The participants of the roundtable noted the necessity of constructive dialogue in the development of archival business, exchange of experiences in the development of archival legislation, continuation of international cooperation in the publishing and exhibition activities.
The Republic of Uzbekistan proposed to hold annual round tables (early June) with participation of the heads of archives departments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries. This initiative was supported by all participants of today's event.
