The President of Uzbekistan took part in the Ashgabat summit

On August 4, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a trilateral summit chaired by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and with the participation of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon.
The agenda of the meeting addressed the issues of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation on the rational use of water resources, development of energy sector, building up transport and logistics potential.
At the beginning of his speech, the head of our state expressed gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for organizing the summit at a high level and hospitality, and thanked the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the initiative to hold the event.
It was emphasized that the common policy of openness, unity and cohesion of the countries of the region is bringing real results. The scale of trade operations and cooperation deals, including in industry, agriculture, energy and logistics. Interregional contacts and cultural and humanitarian exchanges have expanded.
The effective activity of the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of Central Asian States has been noted. It is stated that due to common understanding mutually acceptable decisions are made on topical issues of bilateral and regional agenda.
Emphasizing the new challenges, the President of Uzbekistan emphasized the need for joint search for adequate and deeply thought-out responses.
This is especially important in the context of growing water scarcity in the region, which has become acute in recent years.
It was proposed to intensify cooperation in such areas as introduction of advanced water-saving technologies and modernization of irrigation systems, digitalization of water management processes, joint development of infrastructure for collection and storage of mudflood waters.
- The full potential of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, as well as cooperation through partner organizations and structures, such as the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, should be used in these issues," the head of our state said.
The President further noted that the Central Asian countries have established close and fruitful cooperation in the energy sector, including in the supply and transit of energy carriers.
Taking into account the common plans for transition to a "green" economy, joint implementation of projects in the field of hydro and thermal energy has been initiated.
Special attention has been paid to joining efforts to create an integrated transportation infrastructure. The leader of our country expressed an opinion that the development of Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran corridor, active utilization of the potential of the Trans-Caspian route will enhance the attractiveness of Central Asia as a transit center of international East-West and North-South corridors.
To that end, it was proposed to jointly create favourable conditions for international carriers, accelerate digitalization and increase the capacity of checkpoints.
The coordination of efforts and mutual support of initiatives put forward by the countries of the region on the main international platform - within the framework of the United Nations - have been emphasized.
At the end of his speech, the head of our state emphasized that Uzbekistan intends to continue supporting the initiatives put forward to ensure peace, stability and prosperity of the Central Asian region.
