A round table dedicated to the early elections of the President of Uzbekistan was held in Minsk

The Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Belarus hosted a round table dedicated to the early presidential election in Uzbekistan. The event was attended by Belarusian parliamentarians, political experts, representatives of the media sphere and the CIS Executive Committee.
Charge d'Affaires of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Belarus Rakhmatulla Nazarov told the audience about the election campaign in Uzbekistan. He noted that the election campaign is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Electoral Code and democratic principles. The diplomat also spoke about the new norms in the electoral system of Uzbekistan, which emerged as a result of the constitutional referendum held on April 30, 2023, and about the work in the preparation and holding of the presidential election.
Rahmatulla Nazarov has noted that the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan has registered 4 people as candidates for the post of President of the country. Ulugbek Inoyatov became a candidate from the People's Democratic Party, Shavkat Mirziyoev from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People - Liberal Democratic Party, Robakhon Mahmudova from the Social Democratic Party "Adolat", and Abdushukur Khamzaev from the Ecological Party.
The diplomat also said that on July 9, 2023, the main day of voting, a polling station will work on the territory of the Embassy. Citizens of Uzbekistan and students studying in Minsk will be able to vote there.
In turn, Deputy Head of the Press Service of the CIS Executive Committee, international observer of the Mission from the Commonwealth of Independent States Vitaly Krasnobaev spoke about the work of the Mission to monitor the preparation and conduct of early presidential elections in Uzbekistan.
He has noted that the CIS observers started monitoring the election campaign on June 16, 2023. The CIS Observer Mission is headed by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Sergey Lebedev. The Mission Headquarters coordinates the work of observers. The members of the Headquarters analyze the electoral legislation, distribute observers to the regions of the country and determine the order of their work, prepare the necessary information and methodological and normative-legal materials.
To date, long-term observers have held meetings at the Central Election Commission, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Media Association of Uzbekistan, familiarized themselves with the work of territorial and precinct commissions in Bukhara, Navoi, Khorezm regions, as well as the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
In parallel, the process of forming the Mission is underway: it will include representatives of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, as well as the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia. About 150 observers from the CIS are expected to take part in the monitoring of the early presidential election in Uzbekistan.
The main group of observers from the Commonwealth will arrive in Uzbekistan 2-3 days before the elections and will observe in the regions of the country. Mission members will be present at the opening of polling stations, observe the voting process and the procedure of summarizing the results.
